The lady who wishes to see England but is married to a couch potato who doesn't like to travel may be able to spring him off the couch and into an airplane seat if she researches and plans her trip around the extensive automobile attractions that England has to offer. As a quick surf on Google will reveal, England has a plethora of automobile museums. However, in England they are usually referred to as motor transport museums. One very large museum with an extensive collection of over 400 cars is the Haynes International Motor Museum at Sparkford in Somerset. It houses the largest collection of the world's greatest cars. And for traveling families, there is an adventure play area, Super Diggers, soft play bus, and a children's activity center. The automotive display is spread over eleven themed halls including the famous Red Room in Hall Number 2. The Red Room showcases fifty red sports cars from all over the world, for example a 1981 Lamborghini Countach 400s and a 1965 AC Cobra. The first hall contains cars from birth to 1910 such as a 1900 clement 2.25hp Voiturette. Hall 5 exhibits a blend of veteran, vintage, Edwardian and classics. Here one can find a 1931 Duesenberg Model J Derham bodied Tourster and a Jaguar collection. Hall 7 is devoted to motorsport and exhibits racing cars such as the 1996 Ferrari Formula 1 Type F310(DC) and the 1926 BugatiT35B.

There is also a display of restored British motorcycles and an exhibit of rare speedway bikes. The Millennium Hall is devoted to cars from the last 25 years that could become the classics of the future, for example the 1981 Volkswagen Golf Gti and the 1998 Jaguar X1220. And those who are more interested in celebrity vehicles can leave Haynes and travel on to the Cars of the Stars Keswick on Standish Street in Keswick Cumbria. Here fans of james bond will find a significant James Bond collection featuring several cars actually driven in the films. There is the copper colored Lotus Esprit Turbo that Roger Moore drove during the second part of the film 'For your Eyes Only' and the white Lotus esprit S1 of the famous chase in 'The Spy Who Loved Me'. The museum's regular collection showcases the famous wicker painted Mini Cooper used in the Pink Panther film, 'A Shot in the Dark.' Also included in the collection is a Herbie The Love Bug vehicle. This one was used in 'Herbie Goes Bananas' and is outfitted with gears and pedals so the driver can be unseen giving the appearance of a car with no driver. Batman fans will be pleased to see two Batmobiles and there is also the actual tuk-tuk taxi from the film 'Octopussy'.

Racing enthusiasts will want to visit Donington Park near the East Midlands Airport. Donington features its famous Grand Prix collection that is the most extensive exhibit of single-seater racecars in the world. In addition to the cars, there is a display of memorabilia including helmets, gloves and old programs. And when tired of museums, it is also possible to join a tour of Britain's exclusive automobile factories such as Rolls Royce and Bentley.

Moore seizes the potential of television as a cultural and ethical alarm clock as no one ever has: Imagine 60 Minutes made by a crop of angry, sarcastic hardcore liberals, and you'll get an idea of what Moore's work is like. The targets here are familiar bad guys (HMO's, union-busting corporations, cynical industrialists, bigots), though their familiarity doesn't make them any less bad, or their actions less disturbing. Moore advances his case against the enemy in characteristic style, which swings from wince-inducing (victims of throat cancer, their larynxes removed, rasp Christmas carols in the Philip Morris Co. lobby) to hilarious (a "corporate debt collector" strong-arms a wrongly-dismissed UPS employee back into a job). Once the site of a thriving General Motors plant, Flint went quickly to seed when GM decided to close down and move out. As Moore pokes around what has been described by one magazine as "the worst place to live in America", he finds out how the local populace is coping with GM's betrayal of the American Dream. Among those visited are a family who is evicted just before Christmas, and an enterprising middle-aged woman who set up a thriving business slaughtering and skinning rabbits. Never feigning objectivity, Moore contrasts the impact of the shutdown on the average Joes and Janes with the diffident reaction of Flint's power elite. The latter's patronizing attitude towards the unemployed multitudes is succinctly captured in the scenes in which visiting celebrities Robert Schuller, Anita Bryant, Bobby Vinton and Pat Boone exhort the citizenry to grin and bear it. Even more out of synch is "Miss Michigan" Kaye Lani Rae Rafko, who in her morale-boosting speech to the disenfranchised GM employees begs them to pull for her in the upcoming Miss America pageant! The film's throughline is Moore's futile effort to locate GM chairman Roger Smith, so that he can show Moore first-hand the utter devastation of Flint. Roger & Me is very funny, but it is the gallows humor of soldiers about to embark on a suicide mission. Excerpt from book: CHAPTER IV. MINISTRY IN DANVERS. Mr. Moore commenced his residence in Danvers on the 22d of February, 1833. This town is one of the oldest in New England, and was formerly a portion of Salem. One of its late historians says: Danvers is both city and country. The South Parish extends into Salem, and is essentially one with Salem; while further north the scenery presents so rural an aspect, that the stranger can scarcely fancy himself so near the cities and the seas. Beholding the air of comfort and independence, and witnessing the enterprise and business zeal for which the town has become a proverb, and feeling the bosom expand with the generous liberal spirit which surrounds the community like an atmosphere, the beholder of today can scarcely realize that he stands where witches were tried and executed, and bigotry, an ugly fiend, once poisoned the air with his breath. Formerly distinguished for intolerance, austerity, and gloom, the town is now equally known for its enterprise, and the spirit of liberality which it breathes. That part called the South Parish, where Mr. Moore was settled, has since been incorporated into a town named Danvers. Other portions of the old town are North Danvers and Danversport. The meeting-house of the First Universalist Society is in the last-named place. The society was organized in 1815. The house which it now occupies was dedicated in June, 1833. The Second Society, in the South Parish, of which Mr. Moore was called to be pastor, was formed in March, 1832. During this year a good and commodious house of worship was erected, at a cost of four thousand dollars. This house was dedicated January 10th, 1833. Mr. Moore preached the dedication sermon.
