Roger and Me $13.99 In 1989, Michael Moore, winner of 2002's Best Documentary Feature Academy Award and Cannes Film Festival Special Jury Prize for Bowling for Columbine, triumphantly burst upon the American moviemaking scene with Roger & Me, a hilarious, penetrating forerunner of the independent film movement to follow. Moore doggedly and hilariously tried to do what every working stiff dreams of: talk to the man at the top. His efforts to meet General Motors Chairman Roger Smith and persuade him to visit Flint, Michigan, frames a film that uses humor to devastating effect. Roger & Me champions people over profits and slyly lampoons corporate America as it shows how the Flint folks cope with economic setbacks. |

Citizen Moore $3.48 His fearless satirical assaults on formidable opponents like General Motors, the National Rifle Association and George W. Bush's White House, have made Michael Moore both a box office hit filmmaker and a bestselling author. For the first time this definitive biography traces the untold story of the 30 years of struggles and failures that led to his "overnight" success. To write this revealing, inspirational, often hilarious book, about the quintessential late bloomer, investigative reporter Roger Rapoport interviewed 250 people who played key roles in Michael Moore's life, from the nuns at his boyhood Catholic school to Ralph Nader and other employers - not to mention a seven-foot chicken! Anyone who loves (or detests) Michael Moore will find Citizen Moore an eye-opening book. |

Previously undocumented information provides insights into Moore's mysterious and disastrous jump from local muckraker to editor of "Mother Jones" and narrates the runaway success of his first film, "Roger & Me," This incisive account lets readers see beyond the myths and presents a verifiable perspective on one of the most visible public figures of our age. |

Michael Moore Hates America $7.59 In the documentary MICHAEL MOORE HATES AMERICA, Michael Wilson questions the filmmaker's level of integrity and disputes the accuracy of his facts and statistics. In an effort to satirize the movie ROGER & ME, where Michael Moore tries to get an interview with millionaire Roger Smith, Michael Wilson sets off on a quest to interrogate Moore. Wilson's movie is a close examination of the documentary genre and how it can be used to manipulate the audience's perception of certain events. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. Roger & Me $17.96 Michael Moore's wickedly iconoclastic documentary was inspired by the decline and fall of Flint, Michigan. Once the site of a thriving General Motors plant, Flint went quickly to seed when GM decided to close down and move out. As Moore pokes around what has been described by one magazine as the worst place to live in America, he finds out how the local populace is coping with GM's betrayal of the American Dream. Among those visited are a family who is evicted just before Christmas, and an enterprising middle-aged woman who set up a thriving business slaughtering and skinning rabbits. Never feigning objectivity, Moore contrasts the impact of the shutdown on the average Joes and Janes with the diffident reaction of Flint's power elite. The latter's patronizing attitude towards the unemployed multitudes is succinctly captured in the scenes in which visiting celebrities Robert Schuller, Anita Bryant, Bobby Vinton and Pat Boone exhort the citizenry to grin and bear it. Even more out of synch is Miss Michigan Kaye Lani Rae Rafko, who in her morale-boosting speech to the disenfranchised GM employees begs them to pull for her in the upcoming Miss America pageant! The film's throughline is Moore's futile effort to locate GM chairman Roger Smith, so that he can show Moore first-hand the utter devastation of Flint. Roger & Me is very funny, but it is the gallows humor of soldiers about to embark on a suicide mission. In 1992, Michael Moore more or less updated Roger & Me with his half-hour short subject Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide |

The Burgundian's Tale (Roger the Chapman Mysteries) (Roger the Chapman) $11.48 The new title in the acclaimed Roger the Chapman series Things aren't going too well at home for Roger the Chapman and his wife, Adela. Their fourth child has died only days after being born and Roger fails to conceal his feelings of relief at having one less mouth to feed. Adela naturally resents his attitude and their bitter arguments become increasingly commonplace. Roger decides that to maintain harmony at home the best thing he can do is take up his pack and cudgel and once again leave Bristol to trade his goods in the surrounding countryside. Almost as soon as he makes this decision, he receives a message from King Edward IV's brother, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, summoning him to London to assist in the investigation into the murder of Fulk Quantrell, the son of one of the ladies-in-waiting to Margaret, Duchess of Burgundy, who is on a triumphant return visit to London. It seems Roger has no choice but to return to the dirty, crowded streets of London, where he soon meets a surprising number of people royalty, servants and workers alike who all have a motive for murder. |

More of Moore $15.98 Dorothy Moore sounds more Southern than she ever has on this late-career Malaco Records CD. The singer, who ascended the charts with "Misty Blue" way back when, now has a voice that has aged, husky and more than capable of delivering three-hearts-in-a-tangle sagas and mistreated woman dramas. Only the horns and backing singers (both splendid) keep one from classifying the ballads as deep soul; lovers of that style will find much to like with More Moore. Standouts include "Why Is Leaving You So Hard to Do," "Lie to Me," and "Stop What You're Doing to Me." It's shameful this type of music is absent on mainstream radio. ~ Andrew Hamilton, All Music GuidePerformers: Thomisene Anderson - Vocals (Background); Brenda Barnett - Vocals (Background); Jewel Bass - Vocals (Background); Quanda Brooks - Vocals (Background); Ezra Brown - Horn; Harrison Calloway - Strings, Trumpet; Charles Chalmers - Vocals (Background); Mickey Davis - Strings; Janet Dressler - Strings; Kimble Funchess - Horn; Robert Lampkin - Horn; Ann McNally - Strings; Bob McNally - Strings; Peggy Plucker - Strings; Booker Walker - Horn; Charles Richard Cason - Synthesizer; Roger Hawkins |

Michael Moore: Awful Truth $13.73 Rated: NR Synopsis: If you can imagine a superstar who looks like a Yeti in a Detroit Tigers cap, then it is fair to say filmmaker Michael Moore is America's biggest leftist-activist superstar. No one, with the possible exception of Ralph Nader, has been as well regarded a raiser of awareness as Moore over the last 15 years. Nader has certainly done more for the American people but, unlike Moore, he doesn't have his own TV show. Following his damned-be-General Motors documentary Roger & Me, Moore produced the great TV Nation, airing on NBC and Fox in sporadic and poorly-rated spurts through the early nineties. Moore found a home on Bravo (via the BBC) in 1998, and if The Awful Truth, his new show, is less freewheeling and witty than TV Nation, it does offer Moore fans the considerable advantage of getting a brand new release on video and DVD. Moore seizes the potential of television as a cultural and ethical alarm clock as no one ever has: Imagine 60 Minutes made by a crop of angry, sarcastic hardcore liberals, and you'll get an idea of what Moore's work is like. The targets here are familiar bad guys (HMO's, union-busting corporations, cynical industrialists, bigots), though their familiarity doesn't make them any less bad, or their actions less disturbing. Moore advances his case against the enemy in characteristic style, which swings from wince-inducing (victims of throat cancer, their larynxes removed, rasp Christmas carols in the Philip Morris Co. lobby) to hilarious (a "corporate debt collector" strong-arms a wrongly-dismissed UPS employee back into a job). You'll laugh, you'll squirm, but chances are that you'll be glad Michael Moore is still out there doing his thing, and that someone is still brave enough to put it on television. Roger & Me - Subtitle $18.99 Michael Moore's wickedly iconoclastic documentary was inspired by the decline and fall of Flint, Michigan. Once the site of a thriving General Motors plant, Flint went quickly to seed when GM decided to close down and move out. As Moore pokes around what has been described by one magazine as "the worst place to live in America", he finds out how the local populace is coping with GM's betrayal of the American Dream. Even more out of synch is "Miss Michigan" Kaye Lani Rae Rafko, who in her morale-boosting speech to the disenfranchised GM employees begs them to pull for her in the upcoming Miss America pageant!
