Sir Roger Moore - British actor and iconic humanitarian
Sir Roger Moore is one of the greatest icons of England and is recognized worldwide as a great actor and humanitarian. I thought it would be interesting to write the history of this famous icon its beginnings to its status today as a great English Icon.
Roger George Moore was born in Stockwell, south London on October 14, 1927, the son of a policeman. At 15, he entered art school with the intention of becoming a painter, and later became an apprentice in an animation studio. He immersed himself in acting as an extra in crowd scenes in the mid-1940s. He studied at the Royal Academy of Drama (RADA) and appeared in some parts in the West End before being inducted into the British army. He held the rank of second lieutenant with a combined share of entertainment services in Germany at the end of World War II. After military discharge, he worked in theater, radio and television, but also worked as a model and vendor to make ends meet.
Moore came to the United States in 1953, where he earned a contract with MGM film, playing supporting roles in several films including "Ivanhoe". His first TV series was Ivanhoe high, followed by Maverick. But it was his role as suave and debonair Simon Templar in the television series The Saint which catapulted celebrity. His contract with the show which prevented him from being chosen to play james bond in 1962.
In 1971, an action / adventure series called The Persuaders! was produced by ITC Entertainment first broadcast on ITV and ABC.
It starred Tony Curtis as Danny Wilde, and Roger Moore as Lord Brett Sinclair, two international playboys. A large Part of the humor of the series derived from observations fun on the differences between British and American customs. The concert ended after one season, therefore not to have an impact on American television, which frees Roger Moore starred in the hit films James Bond. Roger Moore has been directly involved in the production of the series, and the need for co-star was found by U.S. imperative to ensure all TV news in the U.S..
Tony Curtis agreed to the proposed series and flew to England in April 1970 to begin filming location, to create a different type of securities by means of his arrest at Heathrow Airport for possession of marijuana.
But the role of Bond returned to Moore in 1972 when Sean Connery said again for the second time he finished as Bond, and Moore was hired as his successor to Live and Let Die.
It has been said that Moore is closer to the original concept by Ian Fleming Bond as disenfranchised member of the British establishment, as Bond more rough-and-linen Connery. Indeed, the tone of the series has changed under the auspices Moore, with scripts that are tailored to his personality and actress. Moore made seven Bond films [more Connery to retire after 007 A View to a Kill in 1985.
Moore has acted sporadically since then, and appears most often in European celebrity magazines and at events charitable. In 1996 he appeared in a TV spot spoofing James Bond for the conglomerate Hansen, who was removed from the air because of disputes with holders of copyrights Bond. He succeeded the late Audrey Hepburn in the role of Special Representative for Cinema UNICEF, raising funds for children under-developed countries.
Roger was the first James Bond to be honored by the government UK, receiving a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) award in March 1999. He received a knighthood in June 2003 for his work with UNICEF.
He was married four times: Van Doorn Steyn Dorothy Squires Luisa Mattoli and Kristina Tholstrup (2002) and He has 3 children, Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian, and 2 granddaughters.
Roger Moore wrote his memoirs, My Word Is My Bond, which was published in 2008.

The Chinese call the Great Britain "island hero," which I think summarizes what we are all in Colombia. We British are curious and competitive and are always looking over the horizon of the next adventure and discovery.

Roger Moore's last outing as James Bond is evidence enough that it was time to pass the torch to another actor. Beset by crummy action (an out-of-control fire engine?) and featuring a fading Moore still trying to prop up his mannered idea of style, the film is largely interesting for Christopher Walken's quirky performance as a sort-of supervillain who wants to take out California's Silicon Valley... |
